ISLAMABAD: PML-Q leadership on Monday urged all parliamentarians to rise above political affiliations and vote against the NRO, following the ‘call of conscience.’
Briefing the journalists after the parliamentary party meeting, PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujat Hussain said his party had taken a unanimous decision to oppose the controversial ordinance.
Former President Sardar Farooq Leghari, former Punjab Chief Minister Chauhdry Pervaiz Elahi, Imtiaz Ranjha and Mustafa Malik were also present.
‘This parliament is going to make history and whosoever would either vote for the black law or would abstain from voting, would invite the public wrath,’ he said.
He claimed that JUI-F leader Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman had informed him that his party was considering to abstain from the voting process on the ordinance.
Farooq Leghari said that the PML-Q had also opposed NRO and this was the reason that General (Retd) Musharraf could not get the parliament’s nod over it in year 2007.
‘General (R) Musharraf had introduced NRO as he wanted to get rid of PML-Q with an objective to ride PPP and other political parties. I had also objected to this law and had told former Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz at a public meeting in DG Khan that there could not be worse piece of legislation than the NRO,’ he added.
He also questioned the PML-N leadership for its partnership with PPP in Punjab, saying that how could it keep its coalition in Punjab with PPP after the NRO saga.—APP
