ISLAMABAD: Leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif Thursday proposed the government to evolve a comprehensive ‘National Action Plan’ to improve the economy instead of depending on foreign debts and aids.
‘The government should evolve a national action plan by taking all political parties on board to improve the economy and making the country self-reliant. The parliament should finalize this plan through effective legislation and it must be made part of the constitution,’ he said.
He was addressing a press conference after chairing a high- level consultative meeting of the party here at the Punjab House.
He said a parliamentary committee should be constituted for the national cause and PML-N would extend all out support to the government in achieving the task.
Criticizing the Kerry-Lugar Bill, Nawaz Sharif said the country would have to get rid of foreign debts and aids to put Pakistan on a consistent path to progress and prosperity.
The PML-N leader said the bill is not acceptable to PML-N in its present terms and conditions but did not elaborate its objectionable clauses.
He said PML-N played a national role and took a principled stance over the issue in the Parliament and at other important forums.
Nawaz Sharif said the country’s total debts have mounted from about Rs3,000 billion to Rs8,000 billion during the last ten years.
Replying to a question, he strongly condemned the recent spate of terrorism in the country and paid glowing tributes to martyrs and security forces for foiling the nefarious designs of the terrorists.
To another question, he rejected the impression that there was any pressure on him by Saudi Arabia for not participating in by-polls.
Responding to another question, Nawaz Sharif said his party would not support any un-democratic step to destabilize the government.—APP
