ISLAMABAD: Acting Attorney General of Pakistan (AAG) informed the Supreme Court of Pakistan that Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s name was not placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).
The three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Ejaz Ahmed Chaudhry and Justice Rahmat Hussain Jafferi resumed hearing of a complaint submitted by the nuclear scientist.
Acting Attorney General of Pakistan, Shah Khawar provided a one-page document and apprised the bench that according to the Ministry of Interior, Dr Khan’s name was not placed on ECL.
To a query of the bench, the AAG said that two of the provisions in the ECL Ordinance had already been struck down by this court and the Dr Khan’s ECL issue was not related to it.
The bench adjourned hearing on the request of the AAG for submitting further comments on the issue after taking instructions from concerned authorities.
In his letter addressed to the Chief Justice, Dr Khan had raised concerns over the issue of some provisions of the ECL Ordinance and maintained that it was against fundamental human rights.—APP
