RAWALPINDI: Chief Minister of NWFP Amir Haider Khan Hoti and Chief Minister of Balochistan Nawab Aslam Raisani met Army Chief Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani and discussed the prospective military operation in Waziristan and the situation in Balochistan.

The meetings were held at the residence of the army chief here on Friday. Gen Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani took chief minister NWFP Amir Haider Khan Hoti into confidence on the prospective operation against militants in Waziristan and the latter also held out assurance of his full cooperation in the campaign designed for cleansing the area from extremists and militants.

A part of the territory of Waziristan lies close to Balochistan on the Pak-Afghan border, therefore, the army chief also apprised the chief minister of Balochistan on the entire situation. Kayani also said that foreign interference was continuing in South and North Waziristan and solid evidence was available in this connection. Certain anti-state elements were also involved in deteriorating the situation in Balochistan, he added.

Sources disclosed that matters related to law and order situation in Balochistan also came under discussion in the meeting and the military leadership informed the two chief ministers about the situation from the perspective of internal security.

Military sources said the meeting was entirely non political which was aimed at improving the situation by eliminating terrorists from Waziristan and the border areas of Balochistan.

It may be mentioned that Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif along with Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, opposition leader in the National Assembly, had earlier met army chief to discuss matters supposedly pertaining to internal security.—Online
