MULTAN: Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Saturday India made efforts to isolate Pakistan in the international community but could not succeed in its designs owing to our successful foreign policy.

Talking to newsmen at the airport, he said: ‘Pakistan is willing to have good relations with India but for that the latter should also response positively.’

He said this month he was expecting his meeting with the Indian foreign minister at the United Nations General Assembly session in New York and he would discuss Pakistan’s point of view and issues of Mumbai, Kashmir and water situation.

He said a positive Indian response was necessary to move forward as good relations between the two countries were very important for regional peace.

He said Saudi Arabia did not demand anything regarding Musharraf’s trial and Mr Rehman Malik’s recent visit to the UAE was only in connection with increase in cooperation in fight against terrorism and extremism.

While the prime minister had already expressed the PPP stand on this issue in parliament, he added.

He said the self-rule package for Gilgit-Baltistan would not affect the country’s stance on Kashmir whose leadership expressed satisfaction over it as powers had been delegated to the elected representatives of the Kashmiri people.

He said two-thirds majority was needed in parliament to amend the Constitution for the creation of new provinces and the government had constituted a parliamentary committee for reforms.

‘Before the final recommendations of this parliamentary committee there is no use talking on this issue as Seraiki province will not be established with mere statements,’ he said.
