‘They have given a decision without hearing us and hopefully their opinion will be positive when they will hear us,’ the prime minister said when asked to comment on the court’s interim order suspending levy of the tax. ‘I will not comment because it is subjudice.’
Talking to reporters at a dinner he had hosted for them, Mr Gilani said he had always supported and would continue to support judicial activism. He said he would extend support to the judiciary in implementation of the judicial policy.
He said the levy of carbon tax had been temporarily suspended without hearing the government’s point of view and he was sure that things would change when the case came up for hearing.
Claiming credit for restoring the pre-Nov 3, 2007, judiciary by removing legal lacunae, the prime minister said a delay in the matter had been caused by ‘other reasons’ that could not be termed ‘delaying tactics’.
