ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry reiterated on Wednesday the need for setting up a clean, efficient and accountable judicial system.
‘To do so, we have to join hands and strive hard for such a laudable goal,’ he said in a letter written to the presidents and general secretaries of various bars on the occasion of Eid.
The chief justice highlighted the need for earnest efforts, constant struggle and sacrifices as demonstrated in the recent past.
‘Currently, we are passing through a difficult phase of institution-building and strengthening,’ he said, urging the legal fraternity to extend full support and cooperation for the cause.
He said the best way to serve the nation was to strengthen the institution of judiciary, address the challenge of ever-increasing litigation and fulfil the heightened expectations of the general public.
‘Remember that the administration of justice is a joint responsibility of the bench and the bar. The two, therefore, have to be in unison and work in harmony to attain the goals.’
The chief justice said the National Judicial Policy, which enjoyed consensus of all stakeholders, was the judiciary’s response to make justice accessible and decide cases and complaints freely, fairly and expeditiously.
‘Our primary goal is to strengthen constitutional norms and state institutions. The administration of justice, an important state pillar, can contribute its bit to national development by acquiring greater independence and dispensing justice to all without any distinction or discrimination on the basis of class, creed, colour or social or political background,’ he said.
