MIRAMSHAH: Jetfighters continued to run bombing missions over parts of North Waziristan tribal region, killing seven people on Tuesday, sources and residents said.

They said that warplanes bombed the Wacha Bibi area, west of Miramshah, hitting suspected hideouts and residential compounds. Seven people were killed in the air strikes.

However, it could not be known whether the dead were militants or non-combatants. A military convoy was ambushed in the locality on Sunday in which 27 soldiers were killed. The army claimed that 10 militants were killed in a counter attack.

In a related development, the militants who pulled out from a peace deal with the government on Monday have slapped a ban on the assembly of five or more persons, formation of peace committees, and have told tribesmen to refrain from going to the political administration offices or seeking employment in government departments or the Khasadar force.

Mujahideen distributed pamphlets in parts of the embattled tribal region on Tuesday, strictly warning the people to abide by the directives otherwise they would be killed in targeted attacks and suicide bombings.

‘Nobody is allowed to visit offices of the political administration for seeking job or any other purpose. If any person is found in violation of the order he will face consequences,’ said a pamphlets distributed in Mirali town. Khasaddars have been asked to abandon their jobs.

Meanwhile sporadic clashes between troops and militants have been reported from the adjacent South Waziristan tribal region. Witnesses said that troops fired at a vehicle at a checkpoint near Wana in which one person was killed and another sustained bullet injuries.

The deceased has been identified as Sabir Khan who recently returned from the United Arab Emirates. The incident took place when soldiers fired at a vehicle when driver ignored signal.

Separately miscreants fired rockets on a military camp in Wana and brigade headquarters at Zari Noor Colony on Monday night. No casualty was reported.

Troops launched preemptive strikes and used artillery. Sources said that security forces also pounded suspected positions in Mehsud area.
