ISLAMABAD: As educational institutions re-open in Punjab, Sindh and Islamabad, many private schools in Lahore are still closed as they have not adopted the security measures prescribed by the government.

This has led several schools to remain shut despite a week’s break.

Despite the government’s notification, these institutions have failed to comply with security guidelines given by the authorities and have been given another 48 hours to enhance their security.

Moreover, many of the schools that have reopened today lacked the necessary security measures and attendance in these schools was below 50 per cent.

Speaking to DawnNews, some said they were still afraid to send their children to schools and will only do so when they are satisfied with the security arrangements.

Following the suicide blasts at the International Islamic University, the government had given a week’s time to educational institutions across the country to enhance their security measures to avoid any untoward incident. These measures included placing barricades, use of metal detectors, erecting an at least eight-feet-high wall, checking of CNICs and installing CCTV cameras.
