Afghanistan: A country blighted by landmines
Afghanistan is among countries most blighted by landmines and unexploded ordnance. According to a 2007 estimate by the International Committee of the Red Cross, up to 200,000 people have been killed or injured by landmines or UXO since 1979. There were between 800 and 900 more victims in 2005 alone, the International Campaign against Landmines estimated. — Reuters photos/Morteza Nikoubazl
