KARACHI: Wapda dominated the first day’s play in the RBS Quaid-i-Azam Trophy National Cricket Championship Group ‘A’ fixture against Karachi Whites at the NBP Sports Complex on Sunday.

Karachi Whites, who lost the toss, were dismissed for only 170 in their first innings with Akbar-ur-Rehman contributing a defiant 58 off 78 balls. His knock included seven hits to the fence.

Former Pakistan paceman Shabbir Ahmed, captaining Wapda in this match, captured 3-35. Fellow pacer Azharullah took 3-58 while Kashif Raza sent back openers Naved Khan (12) and Mohtashim Ali (16) in a hostile opening burst.

Wapda, in reply, reached 128-4 with left-handed opener Adil Nisar striking five fours and one six in a 57-ball innings of 44.

KRL got off to a flying start as they posted 319-7 after National Bank elected to field first at the KRL Stadium in Rawalpindi. Bazid Khan (77), Zahoor Elahi (76 not out) and Saeed Anwar Jr (52) were the main run-getters for KRL.

Pakistan Customs after winning the toss asked ZTBL to bat first at the Marghzar Cricket Ground in Islamabad, ZTBL struggled all day to close at 224-8.

Habib Bank were 10-1 after bowling out Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) for 245 in their first innings at the Diamond Club Ground in Islamabad. Opener Naeemuddin (69) and skipper Azhar Shafiq (61) were the major scorers for SNGPL.

Meanwhile, the Group ‘B’ tie between Karachi Blues and Faisalabad has been put back until Monday because of an exhibition tournament that was held at the National Stadium late on Saturday night.

Our Sports Reporter adds from Lahore: Pakistan Under-19 skipper Azeem Ghumman struck an unbeaten 148 to help Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) hit up 297-3 after Lahore Shalimar inserted them into bat the Gaddafi Stadium.

Opener Azeem’s excellent 229-ball knock featured 11 fours and one six. Skipper Saeed bin Nasir also batted well to contribute 57 in the unbroken partnership of 94 with Azeem.

Lahore Ravi restricted Quetta to 220 in the first innings after deciding to field first in the Group ‘B’ game at the LCCA Ground. The home team went to stumps at 15 without loss.

Sialkot, the reigning champions, were bundled out for a paltry 107 after they were asked to bat first by Rawalpindi at the Jinnah Stadium in Sialkot. The hosts were only able to reach three figures after tailenders Naved Arif (49) and Faisal Rasheed (9) combined to add 54 for the last wicket.

For Rawalpindi, young paceman Mohammad Rameez continued his good form by picking up 6-43 in 15 overs. The visitors reached 115-4 in reply.
