He also vowed to implement the competition laws in letter and spirit to check anti-competition behaviors for the relief of consumers and promotion of competition in business.
Declaring the competition laws crucial for the growth of the national economy, he said that approval of the competition ordinance before November 28 was important to achieve this objective.
He said that approval of the Competition Commission Ordinance by the Parliament would help promote business and improve the national economy.
He added that anti-competition forces are opposing this ordinance for their ulterior motives.
Replying to a question, he said that it takes at least two years to collect fines imposed by the CCP on any undertaking, adding that the fine after collection goes to the consolidated fund of the CCP.
‘I can only spend the fined money from the consolidated fund on the basis of the approved budget and I cannot spend the amount on my own,’ he clarified.
He added that he had recently visited India and attended an international conference on competition laws where India appreciated the competition laws of Pakistan.—APP
