Dear Super Sis
Can you tell me what a Rubik’s cube is and how to solve it?
Anonymous

The Rubik’s cube is a 3D brain puzzle comprising multicoloured mini cubes. It was originally invented in 1974 by a Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture, Erno Rubik and was called the ‘Magic Cube’. After licensed selling, the puzzle came to be known as Rubik’s cube and as of January 2009 stands to be the most popularly sold toy around the world.

The puzzle itself comprises a set of 3x3x3 mini cubes with multi-coloured surfaces. Each mini cube can be rotated in three dimensions — the idea is to align the multi-coloured facets of the mini cubes in such a way that the overall Rubik’s cube ends up with solid-coloured walls on all six sides. These days, you can find 5x5x5 cube puzzles as well as a humongous 7x7x7 puzzle in the international market. But it’s best to start off with the original 3x3x3 grid first.

There is a series of steps to solving the Rubik’s cube and the process is long enough so that it cannot be all put down here. But I’m giving you the link to an excellent website devoted entirely to this mind-boggling puzzle: http://www.youcandothecube.com/. Here you will get all the answers to how to solve the Rubik’s cube along with other game ideas as well.

So get your hands on a Rubik’s cube and get cracking. Happy playing!
