Watch out! You are crossing the road

By Rabab Fatima

Most of the road accidents happen due to the careless attitude of drivers but today I am not going to talk about drivers, I am going to talk about some careless pedestrians who cross the road sloppily and cause accidents. Sometimes it's the careless way people cross the road that jeopardises not only their safety but also the safety of many others around them.

Life is a precious gift of God so it should not be treated in such a careless way. We should always keep in mind the basic rules of road safety while crossing the road.

•STOP and LOOK: Before crossing the road stop and look both ways. If you are with a friend then stop talking to your friend and concentrate on crossing the road safely, especially girls! Please stop messaging on your cell phones or listening to music so that you can safely cross the road.

•DON'T RUN: No matter how late you are going to be for reaching your destination, never cross the road while running you can walk quickly but don't run. Make sure that the driver clearly sees you before you cross their car.

•TRAFFIC SIGNAL: Always cross the road when traffic signal turns red. Be extra careful while crossing the streets where there is no traffic light.

•CHECK: If you get off a bus, wait until it has moved away before checking for moving vehicles.

•SPEED AND DISTANCE: It is highly recommended that you judge the speed and distance of the vehicles before crossing the road.

•INTERSECTIONS: When crossing the road at an intersection, remember to check behind and in front for turning vehicles

•AT NIGHT: While crossing the road at night time, try to cross from near a street light.

By following these basic rules we can safely cross the roads and reduce the number of accidents. The next time you cross the road keep these rules in mind. Happy crossing! Adios!
