I was really impressed by Munizeh Zubairi’s article, “We Should Be Proud of Our National Language”, published in November 17 issue of Young World. Nowadays young people are not paying attention to Urdu and think that speaking Urdu is not fashionable. I would like to say that Urdu is our national language and we should promote it as it’s our identity.

I totally agree with Munizeh Zubairi’s opinion regarding our national language.
It is true that there are some people in our society who think that Urdu-speaking is a shameful act and consider it inferior than English.
The writer highlights that “the nation which forgets its own culture and language, can never progress”.
This is, in fact, a massive tragedy that we do not give Urdu its due importance. One might wonder despite the numerous languages spoken in this homeland what actually is our public language. Is it Urdu, English, Balochi, Pushtu or what?
The national language is the identity of any nation and I request all Pakistani citizens to promote Urdu because if we don’t do it now, we will soon lose our identity.

Mobile phone: trend or need?
Nowadays in our country mobile phones are being widely used. It has some advantages as well as disadvantages but the list of disadvantages would be longer than the list of advantages.
The most common disadvantage of this technology is its negative effect on our young generation. Many youngsters have become
addicted to cell phone usage
and they tend to avoid their studies for the sake of talking to their friends on cell phone or playing games.
I, therefore, request all youngsters, especially teenagers, to stay away from this ghost invention.

Books: losing grip over youth
Nowadays, the importance of libraries for students has reduced to a great extent.
This is mainly due to the lack of interest in books as many other technologies have outshined the benefits of books.
Today’s generation believes that smsing or chatting is
a better way to enjoy
rather than reading a good book.
As far as the information on various topics that books provide is concerned, then
one may ask ‘why is Internet for?’ Search engines are
available which are just
a click away, and you can
get an answer to almost any question you have related to any field and that too without any hard work of finding the right books. Moreover online versions of books are also available. Above all it’s free of cost!
But I think that books hold a position that is irreplaceable. In schools, library period is considered a “free period” by students and sadly I, myself, am included in that bunch of students. And in some schools, movies are shown in library period.
This is indeed a pitiful situation and a matter to be looked upon but it is an undeniable fact that in this fast paced world, such things are unavoidable!
