Hi kids!

I am going to narrate a touching story, whose moral is that when everyone tries together they can bring about a positive change in other people, especially those you meet everyday or regularly. So here goes: The other day in school the teacher again found Dolly sitting all alone during the break. All the other children were playing or sitting in groups munching on their snacks, and talking endlessly. This was more or less the daily routine.

Dolly was a sweet young girl, and one of the brightest students in her class. She just had a problem: she was unable to express herself in company because of her shy nature. This one weakness of hers had made her very quiet. Because she didn’t talk much in class, other students also left her alone. She had a sensitive heart and a bright mind which were reflected in all her creative writing assignments and the way she did other class activities. Sometimes, when some of her classmates looked at her in a sort of weird way, she felt hurt, but again she would keep her feelings to herself, and find solace in books or in concentrating on her class work.

Her teacher knew the situation well and waited for an opportunity to act. The next day when Dolly had not come to school for some reason she thought it was perfect timing. So she spoke to the class. She explained that Dolly had just one limitation, i.e. she has difficulty opening up to people because of her reserved nature. But this does not mean that she would not like to take part in group discussions or even little games that everyone plays. If her classmates tried to be friendly towards her and invited her to join them in their activities, she would eventually overcome her timidity. She could then also start taking part in discussions, and everyone will benefit from her participation. It was a shame that by excluding one person and her opinions and thoughts, the class should remain poorer in terms of sharing ideas and knowledge.

Everyone seemed to find a lot of sense in what the teacher said, and decided to do their bit to draw Dolly out of her shyness, and make friends with her. Thus, only a few days later a marked difference was seen in the entire class’s behaviour towards Dolly. She too began to talk and participate more in group activities. Now she did not have to sit by herself during the break, and had as many friends as everyone else in the class.

See you next week.

Bye!

Ed
