The perfect Saturday

By Tehreem Zahid

Idleness or the state of laziness is a common problem among us, especially during the weekends or any free time. One encounters such people who have nothing to do but to switch channels all day.

Utilising your time by doing something positive can change your lifestyle. Wasting time by talking constantly on the phone, lying on the bed, doing nothing can never bring about changes in one’s life; one has to be agile and active to live a healthy and happy life.

Most of us are off from school on Saturdays. Mainly we waste it by watching TV all day long or playing video/computer games. Internet chatting or text-messaging to friends is an activity indulged in by the most. This results in massive scolding by your mom and dad.

There are many useful activities to engage yourself in on Saturday. Some interesting activities that can help you to become a good housekeeper are listed here:

Clean your room

Cleaning your room will put a big smile on your mom’s face. You can clean your room, dust it, vacuum clean it and try your best not to get it messed again. Rearrange your furniture, remodel, redesign and make it look perfect — according to your own wishes!

Clean the attic

Attic is a mysterious place. It possesses hidden treasures. Sort out the different items in neat boxes and sweep the dusty floor. Cleaning out the attic has one advantage: it’s a trip down the memory lane as your see old photographs, test papers, books, clothes — the good old days!

Clean out your closet

Possibly the hardest and most irritable place to clean is the closet, which involves dusting, arranging, sorting out, scrubbing and trashing items. Posters, books, socks and clothes need to be in their correct order. After doing much hard work, you get a nice and neat closet.

Wash your dad’s car

It’s a very handy and enjoyable job. It’ll not only please your dad but you will also get first hand experience with cars and your name will be added in your dad’s good books.

Grocery shopping

Be a little helpful in the house-hold chores by doing the week’s shopping. You need to be extra careful here as you need to pick the right things and get back the change safely too.

Take your dog on a walk

Dogs love travelling with their masters. A brief walk in the park will get you and your dog energised for the whole day. Make sure your dog is on a leash, or it’ll cause great chaos.

Help your mom cook

The moment you step in the kitchen, the secrets of the tasty dishes are revealed to you. Although you’re too young to cook, you can cut, peel and chop vegetables that’ll give you something to boast about at the dinner table.

Sewing

It’s great fun learning how to sew and knit not only for girls but for the guys too! Ask your grandmother to teach you the basics of stitching. It’s not too difficult. Just a little practice and you’ll get a wardrobe full of colourful dresses for your dolls.

Go to the library

Going to the library is a great hobby; you can browse through many books and have a great time. Your parents can accompany you if required.

Write an article

This is a very interesting pastime. If you know how to write an article and you have an interesting subject in your mind. Just pick up your pen and a writing pad to get started. This activity will not only improve your writing skills but will also help you explore various subjects.

Paint/draw

For a little recreation, painting or drawing can be the best on a bright sunny Saturday morning. Spread a sheet in the lawn, display all your colours and start painting. Paint whatever you want … scenery, cartoon characters or anything. You can hang your painting in your bedroom and if it’s too good, you can hang it in the drawing room!

With so many things to do on a Saturday, it’s hard to stay idle. Make your Saturday ‘The perfect Saturday’ and see how much it will benefit you. The activities described above will enhance your learning capabilities and help you in future. So, be good to yourself and don’t waste your weekends.
