Older people often say that the youngsters today waste a lot of their time and energy in unproductive and useless activities, like hanging out with friends, chatting on the Net and playing video/computer games. It may be true for some teenagers but to say that all kids do just that and nothing else is far from the truth.
I know, a lot of you have much talent and some are really very good at what they choose to do. This is not only evident from the results of ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels, where Pakistani students often are on the top in one subject or the other; but some of you have performed well in extra-curricular activities as well and made your name.
Earlier this year we had proof of this when a competition titled “Karachi through your eyes” was announced and children were asked to show their photographic skills and capture glimpses of Karachi on camera. The entries we received were put on display during the Lifestyles exhibition held in June. The contestants showed much promise and talent, and came up with some very good photographs. So much so that the judges had a tough time deciding the winners. Check out the centre fold in this issue and you will see the top ten photographs from the contest; these are being printed for you to see and take inspiration to do something worthwhile.
It is also an apt reminder to those who seem to have little hope in the younger generation. The talent and the urge to do something are very much there. What the youngsters need are the opportunity and the platform to show their accomplishments. So make the most of the opportunities you get to prove your worth, and the sky is the limit.
