It was a hot sunny afternoon, and the sun was shining as brightly as ever, torturing everyone with its blistering heat. I and my friend were returning home from school. On the way, we started feeling really thirsty and after just a few minutes, our throats went all dry because of the scorching heat. We had cash, but there wasn’t any blessed shop to be seen. We felt like we were in a desert, in search for an oasis, dying for just a sip of water to quench our thirst. We moved on to the main road where we knew was a super store; it was there right in front of us. We just had to cross the road, and we would be there in a jiffy.
Then just like a cat runs after a mouse, without caring about the mess it was creating during its chase, we charged towards the store. The signal had turned green, and we both knew it, but we were so eager to reach the store that we didn’t wait for it to turn red.
We were in the middle of the road. I was running towards the store, dodging the cars that went swooshing by me, when suddenly, I heard a loud crash from behind, which was followed by a piercing scream. I glanced back, and saw that my friend was lying on the road in a pool of his own blood.
I felt a lump in my throat, as I darted towards him. My mind had gone numb, and my heart started thumping madly. I bent over his helpless body, to check his heart beat. I already knew he was dead, but a hope still lay in my heart. No heart beat. My worst fear had come true. I placed my head on his chest, and cried my heart out. If only we had waited for that signal, this would not have happened.
We would be enjoying a bottle of cold drink, and he would have been alive, if only we were not in a hurry, if only we had waited…..waited for that signal……
