The world outside my dull house looked full of fun, enthusiasm and enjoyment. When I was young I never felt that I should also experience the fun my friends had but as the years passed my thirst to feel the excitement grew stronger but scared of my stern father, I never expressed my desire to do something exciting.
Although my mother was caring and supportive, my father was the dominating one in our small family of three members.
“It is awesome Mike! It’s really nice of you, thanks a lot. I truly owe you this one,” Debra, my best friend, said to her boyfriend.
“Hey Debs, what’s up? You look excited?” I asked seeing the sparkle in her eyes.
“Mike just gave these passes to the new P3 club in park avenue. We are going there tonight and you too are coming.” Debra insisted although she knew my father would not permit. During our lunch break she tried to convince me by telling how dull and uninteresting my life was.
“If you are not going to enjoy now, then when? When you turn 60?” Debra was right, if not now then when? I agreed with her plan and we decided to keep it a secret from my parents. That whole day at school seemed like it was not passing. Debs gave me a stylish outfit to wear to the club. At the dinner table I did not eat much, due to my limitless excitement. Around half past nine, I kissed my parents good night and pretended if I was tired and wanted to sleep. As I took a step towards the staircase, my father called my name and for a moment my heartbeat stopped. “Melissa is everything alright? You look different today?”
After assuring them, I quickly went to my room and changed my dress. Then through the window I went out. Debra and mike were waiting for me at a street near my house. Together we went to the most special night of my life.
I had never seen a place full of noise, excitement and vehemence. I started dancing freely not concerned about my parents. After two hours only we three and some other guys dressed in black and roaming around the place in a mysterious way were left. I could hear the siren of police cars but ignored it and kept enjoying, but soon I could see the cops too…“Do not move! Put your hands around your head!” One of them shouted.
We tried to convince them we were not involved in the drug case as those mysterious guys were. The reply of the officer made me extremely nervous and worried “Okay young lady! Let me call your parents then.”
My parents were more than disappointed, upset and ashamed at my discreditable act of breaking their trust and deceiving them. Half of my heart encouraged me by saying that I had every right to enjoy myself but then this encouragement faded away when the other part told me that I had broken the faith my parents had in me. “Mom… Dad… I…” I wanted to say something but the loud voice of my father telling me to keep quiet made my apology stay inside my mouth. It was the first time that I went to an awesome party and by seeing the look in my parents’ eyes it was obvious it was going to be the last.
