“You promised not to tell! Yet everyone’s asking me about it! Only you knew my secret, I’ll never trust you again! Never!” cried Nisha. “But…. but I didn’t disclose your secret, believe me, Nisha!” Liza replied.

“Then tell me Liza, how everyone got to know about it…? Tell me!” asked Nisha.

“Nisha, please, believe me, I didn’t do it and I really don’t know how everyone got to know your secret,” Liza begged.

“No Liza, never, I thought you were…, I will never trust you again,” with that, Nisha stormed out of the room angrily.

Liza stared at Nisha looking confused. She didn’t know how Nisha’s secret leaked out. She had not said a word to anybody.

Nisha and Liza were two best friends. They both were very close friends and both shared their secrets. They often accompanied each other as their parents worked long hours. They loved helping each other. Liza and Nisha met each other in primary-one. They had a lot in common. They thought that they would be best friends forever. Sadly, that was not to be, as Nisha thought that her secret had been revealed to everyone by her best and trustworthy friend, Liza.

A few weeks ago Nisha came to know that she was an adopted child of her parents and her real parents had died few years ago. She was very upset when she came to know about it. She told this to her best friend, Liza, whom she trusted and now everyone in the school was teasing her and every one was asking her about her real parents. She was shocked when she heard that. She was very upset, sad and was crying in her bedroom.

“Why, Liza, tell me, tell me why did you break my trust, tell me… I had trusted you so much, but now… now I will never trust you, I hate you Liza, I really hate you!” Nisha cried to herself.

As she was crying, the telephone bell rang. At first she thought that it must be Liza; she didn’t want to talk to her, but then she slowly picked up the phone wiping her tears. This was Tania, her classmate.

“Hello, Nisha, I’m sorry for disturbing you but I want to tell you something very important. I want to apologize because it was I who revealed you secret to everyone… I am very sorry for that and I’m sure you’ll forgive me. I am extremely very sorry, Nisha, please forgive me,” Tania said in a shameful voice.

“What? Tania, it was you. Oh, it was you who did that, How did you…? Oh!” Cried Nisha.

“Nisha, I read your secret diary and I regret what I did, I’m extremely sorry,” Tania said in a low voice.

“How dare you go through my diary? And you even leaked my secrets to other people! But now it’s alright and thank you for telling me the truth.” With that, Nisha ended the call and hurriedly called Liza who was crying too.

Nisha consoled her and apologised for having doubted her. Liza accepted the apology and told Nisha that she was relieved that the truth was out, she said that she was glad that the quarrel (misunderstanding) between them was settled; finally, they were best friends again!
