Your subconscious mind accepts what is impressed upon it or what you consciously believe. It does not reason out things like your conscious mind, and it does not argue with you
The mind has been a subject of interest since ages and is being continuously worked upon by scientists and psychologists who are still striving to further explore the hidden secrets of the human mind. This miracle-working power station has more than two billion cells and the infinite abundance of intelligence and wisdom found in it can enrich a person in all aspects of life.
There are two aspects of the mind — the conscious and the subconscious. This article deals with the intriguing phenomenon of the subconscious mind. Most of us may not be familiar with the idea of distinguishing the conscious and subconscious mind or the ‘Objective and Subjective mind’. Once you are adapted to the fundamentals of this natural phenomenon, you can exercise immense control over your mind and direct it the way you want.
As we know every system around us has a certain working mechanism to follow. The entire universe, comprising the stars, planets and other creations adheres to prescribed laws of the Universe. Likewise we have some generally accepted principles which are universally recognised and applicable. For instance, water boils at 100ºC whether it is placed in south east region or European region, or metal contracts when it cools, is a fact at any time under the given circumstances. Similarly we have some basis over which our mind works which applies equally to all individuals and the point in giving these examples is to illustrate that each and everyone of us has been blessed with a similar mind which works under the same system and none of us, in any way, lags behind the other in the possession of these innate abilities which are just to be put to use.
By simply adhering to the techniques and processes underlying in this article, you can gain the necessary knowledge and in-depth understanding of your mind and can gain the skills needed to master your subconscious mind.
Firstly, we must consider the fact that we have only one mind, but with two different characteristics. The two functions of our mind are essentially unlike. Each is endowed with separate and distinct attributes and powers. Your subconscious mind may be considered as your obedient mind. It follows the way you guide it. If you process positive thoughts in it, it simply executes it without scrutinising it.
Your conscious mind is like the captain of the ship, which represents your body, environment and all your affairs. Being the navigator, it directs the ship and signals orders to the subordinates. So your subconscious mind works as the subordinate who does not know what to do; all it knows is to follow the instructions of the master (conscious mind). Thus your subconscious mind is likened to the soil which will grow all kinds of seeds, good or bad. Every thought can be regarded as a cause and every condition you attach to it (either good or bad) is an effect.
The point to remember is that once the subconscious mind accepts an idea, it begins to execute it. It is an interesting and subtle truth that the law of the subconscious mind works for good and bad ideas alike. This implies that if you say to your mind, ‘This assignment is very difficult’, your subconscious mind will accept (without rationalising it) and process the thought to your body and environment. Now the whole of the body will work according to the message (thought) conveyed to it. Eventually you will end up with a negative outcome brought about by your negative idea. However, when your habitual thinking is harmonious and constructive, you experience good health, success and prosperity. Most of the great scientists, artists, poets, singers, writers and inventors have a deep understanding of the workings of the conscious and subconscious minds and they regard it as a very powerful tool to bring about success in their specific fields.
The reason behind this is that your subconscious mind accepts what is impressed upon it or what you consciously believe. It does not reason out things like your conscious mind, and it does not argue with you controversially. Your subconscious mind is like the soil that accepts any kind of seed, good or bad. Negative, destructive thoughts continue to work negatively in your subconscious mind, and in due time will come forth into outer experience which corresponds with them. Take the example of a young singer who was invited to give an audition; she had a wonderful voice but she failed due to fear of failure. Her subconscious mind had accepted the negative suggestion and proceeded to manifest it. But later she managed to overcome it. Three times a day she sat in a quiet and calm manner and suggested to herself that she is singing very confidently and remarkably and she has been selected in the audition. She continued to practice it for a week, when she was again called for the audition she finally succeeded.
Innumerable experiments by psychologists and others on people in the hypnotic state have shown that the subconscious mind is incapable of making selections. They have shown repeatedly that the subconscious mind will accept any suggestion, however false. Having once accepted any suggestion, it responds according to the nature of the suggestion given. A hypnotist may suggest to his patient that he is living in the past, in 200BC. His student will follow the line of his particular suggestion, totally oblivious to all his surroundings.
Once a man continuously told himself for two years that he would give his right arm to see his daughter cured. It appeared that his daughter had a crippling form of arthritis together with a so-called incurable form of skin disease. Medical treatment had failed to alleviate the condition, and the father had an intense longing for his daughter’s healing, and expressed his desire in words mentioned above. Eventually what happened is that one day the family was out riding when their car collided with another. The father’s right arm was torn off at the shoulder, and the daughter’s arthritis and skin condition vanished. The power of suggestion was so influential that it not only affected the father but also cured his daughter.
Each of us has his own inner fears, beliefs, opinions, and these inner assumptions rule and govern our lives. A suggestion has no power in, and of, itself except it is accepted mentally by you. This causes your subconscious powers to flow in a limited and restricted way according to the nature of the suggestion. Develop the habitual thinking of health, prosperity, and success and make your life full of harmony and peace. Practice positive thinking at least twice or thrice a day by instilling thoughts of wisdom and goodness in your subconscious mind in a quiet and silent manner. Speak to yourself the way you want. Imagine you are achieving your goals and your dreams are turning into reality. The miraculous powers of your mind will uplift you in all walks of life.
