“Ma’am, Mrs Darcy took off from the servant cottage five minutes, ago.” The servant providing her with this information bowed and went out of the room. Jennifer devoured this information with leisure and stretched her arms in comfort.
Jennifer had hired Mrs Darcy, a recently widowed woman, who soon after her employment had taken control of the house and was ruling over every person’s heart. Instead of being glad that an honest person had taken control of her house, Jennifer was jealous. She was a well-known and rich business woman but was very vain. She often lectured her servants on how lucky they were to be employed by her and that they got paid more than any of the servants in the neighbourhood. Many servants were often frustrated by her mean, proud and Miss-know-it-all manner, so one day hearing a servant talk about how wonderful Mrs Darcy was, her jealousy mounted up so much that she asked the surprised woman to leave.
Days passed by and Jennifer became a quite sure woman, so sure that she thought that her business would always continue even if she paid no attention to it. Because of her careless attitude her business fell to bits. Many of her employees, taking advantage of her weakness got all the money out of her account. So now it was Jennifer who stood in Mrs Darcy’s place and in her place was a woman undoubtedly more selfish than Jennifer. And Jennifer who had always been in luxury didn’t know how tough a house keeper’s job was, was soon kicked out of the place.
Now the poor woman is seen begging in London Abbey and is getting a taste of her own medicine.
