Super Sis

Dear Super Sis,

I am 12 years old and study in class VI and I want to become an army officer, therefore I want to join any cadet college or relevant school. Please give me some contacts so that I may apply. What is the minimum age required for the same as I mentioned.
Sulman Hanif

Sulman, it is great to know that you are so enthusiastic to join the Pakistan Army. There are a number of cadet colleges in our country, including those based in Hasan Abdal, Kohat, Larkana, Mastung, Palandri, Petaro, Razmak, Sanghar and Skardu. There is the Pakistan Steel Cadet College as well.

However, you must have heard a great deal about the Cadet College Petaro as being one of the best academic colleges around. Indeed, aspiring cadets go to great lengths to gain admission here and hence, I will be talking with particular reference to this college.

Our cadet colleges allow admissions at the level of class eight (VIII). In the case of Petaro, as quoted on its official website, admissions are restricted for those boys whose parents are domiciled in the province of Sindh and who are between 12 to 14½ years of age on March 31 of the admissions year. The admission age for other cadet colleges is also the same.

Broadly, there is a selection procedure that you should prepare yourself for which comprises three parts: 1- Written test in English, Maths and Urdu/Regional langauge, 2- Interviews, and 3- a Medical Test.

Written tests for Petaro are normally held in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah, Dadu, Larkana and Sukkur. Those who pass are considered for selection on merit basis within the limitations of the quota system being followed presently. In case you don’t qualify on the merit list, but do pass the tests, there is the possibility of getting admission via self-finance basis, but it is expensive and I urge you to give the test preparation your best shot.

Now this is just the main, generalised information true for most cadet colleges. In order to get more details on a particular college, I suggest you visit its website and order the prospectus through the procedure listed there. For instance, in the case of Cadet College Petaro, desirous candidates can apply via a form contained in the college prospectus, obtainable against crossed postal orders of Rs250 (favouring the Principal Cadet College Petaro) by post or in person.

Most colleges advertise their admissions schedule in national newspapers every year and normally, there is a last date for submission of completed application forms, so make sure you’re vigilant and do not miss that date.

I am giving you the contact details of some of the cadet colleges here; phone numbers mostly. You can call them up and get further information and support.

Petaro: (0221) 222021/8 (8 lines) or write to the Principal, Cadet College Petaro, Sindh 76120.

Skardu: (05831) 58433/58436 or email at skardovian@hotmail.com

Kohat: (0922) 9260070, (0922) 9260072, (0922) 9260073, (0922) 561300, (0922) 561328

Mastung: (0843) 895020

Hasan Abdal: (057) 2520247

If you are still completely clueless, simply Google up the name of any cadet college you are interested in and follow the links to its official website. You will find all the information you need there. Good luck!

Dear Super Sis,

I am an 11-year-old and I love my cousin. The problem is that he lives in Mexico. I need your help.
Worried

Awww, sweet! Little one, I’m sure you love your cousin very much and you must be missing him as well if you are close to him. Having cousins, especially those whom we adore and can talk to or play with is wonderful, isn’t it?

So what if he lives in Mexico? That’s nothing to worry about! You can always get in touch with him. Ask mum or dad to ring him up and talk to him, or get in touch via email. Once you do that, you won’t miss him as much and you won’t feel blue any more. It’s great fun to catch up on things and laugh together. I’m sure he will have lots of stories to share as well and would love to hear from you. So why don’t you give it a try? Cheer up. Toodles! i
