Music: Haroon ka nasha

When Haroon’s latest video “Jiya Jaye” first made rounds on the airwaves, his fans took a sigh of relief upon the return of this celebrated pop artist on the mainstream scene after a huge gap of four years. His third solo album Haroon Ka Nasha is selling like hot cakes and is already sizzling up all the music charts.

Haroon sets the ball rolling with the funkiest song of the album, “Jua Khela”, influenced by a funky guitar riff played by Assad Ahmed, his ex-Awaz mate. The upbeat song says that love is a gamble. “Nai Hai Yeh Pyar” is a heart wrenching melody which is an Urdu translation of Haroon’s English composition “This Isn’t Love”.

It is a very interesting concept because it has never been written about. Next up is ‘Jiya Jaye’ which is an up-tempo electro pop tune with an enthusiastic chorus. The song conveys the message of peace, love and brotherhood in it with meaningful lyrics. This one’s a sure winner!

The album touches its most melodic note on “Ibtada-i-Ishq”. This heart catching ballad borrows lyrics from poet Mirza Ghalib’s poem. “Yeh Raat”, inspired by another of his composition “Tonight We Fly”, is a fantastic rock treat where Haroon portrays his impeccable guitar playing flair fused with Shuja Haider’s edgy bassline, making it a true gem. Blistering guitar riffs provide an intro for “She’s No Good For You” where Haroon couples voices with an alluring UK based singer Yvonne. My favourite however remains “Ashiqa”, a full of life typical Haroon romantic vibe that can win your beloved’s heart! Bravo! Another interesting tune on the album is “Big Corporation Man” which is Haroon’s satirical take on huge companies driven by greed and profit. “Ishq Nasha” is a true club thumper and most probably his next video while “Saqi” is a dark song full of angst and despair. The album closes with another message oriented tune “Hum Hain”, a positive uplifting aggressive rock song with a huge stadium chorus.

Haroon is strictly against drugs and insists that the title of the album Haroon Ka Nasha should not be misunderstood. It is a must listen album indeed!
