I was spending my vacations on a cruise ship. Since I was not travelling with my family and was alone, I began to observe the environment.
I could only see a huge blue sea which was calm, and was disturbed by small waves. The air was humid, and thick with the exuberant smell of fish. The hot blazing sun was shinning gleefully in the apparently undimmed sky. Its strong rays stung my eyes so painfully that I was forced to look at my own blurred reflection in the sea.
However, to my great surprise the pleasant weather changed into an ominous one. Winds began to bluster furiously, and seemed to be taking out their grudge on the helpless ship. Dark clouds also began to thicken in the sky. The sea which almost looked dead had burst into life, and showed its smooth colossal blue muscles.
The place where I was standing alone soon became swelled with passengers. It was not long when everyone was mesmerised by the lightening displays due to the storm. As the ship began to wobble a chaos spread throughout the ship. While the captain tried to calm the panicked passengers, I decided to head towards my room in the lower deck.
While lying on my bed, I could hear the hammering of the rain growing stronger and stronger. As time glided by, the rain became even more relentless. As I stood up, suddenly a feeling of dread erupted, as I felt my feet slipping in water. As I looked down, I saw a thin layer of water, which had covered the handsome wooden floor, and was swirling around my bare feet.
Therefore I darted outside my room finding the corridor deserted, and my legs submerged in knee deep water. The chilly water was sloshing around, and was rising at a snail’s pace. I was flabbergasted since I did not know how the water filled the ship. My brain only signalled to me that I should get out from the lower deck as soon as possible. Therefore taking plenty of air in my lungs; I plunged back the frigid water. Horror struck me when I came across a jammed door. As I felt the need of oxygen rising in my body, I began banging at the door fanatically. At last I succeeded in opening the jammed door, but was shocked to find the ship abandoned.
“The ship must have been evacuated." I painfully whispered to myself.
The furious and huge waves made the ship jolt as if the ship was caught by an earthquake. To my great surprise the ship started to whirl, and spin and I soon came to know that it had been caught in a whirlpool. Since I was left with no option, I jumped into the sea.
To my luck the waves tugged at my small and cold body, and drove me away from the whirlpool. I was floating helplessly in the open sea, and was tossing, tumbling, and dodging the debris of the ship. At last I got hold of a piece of timber, and lay my weight on it. My hands which were loosely dangling hit something, and I screamed in extreme agony. Tears began to emerge from the crinkled corners of my eyes. As the cruel rain camouflaged my tears, I thought whether I would be rescued or would die.
Hugging my shuddering body, I passed the dark hours which seemed like days. Soon the flurry of rain stopped, and as the clouds dispersed, light poured on the sea.
I was still trembling but felt relieved as the warmth of the sun touched my cold and feeble body. As hours glided by, every hope of mine collapsed, but to my surprise a voice pierced my ears. As I opened my eyes I saw a rescue boat. As I knew that I would soon be rescued I pressed my weight loosely on the piece of timber, and the last thing that I remember was lying in a comfortable bed feeling my mother’s gentle hands telling me that I was safe.
