Music: Kelly Clarkson: Thankful

By Zainab Shafi

We have all heard the American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson’s double Grammy-winning sophomore album, but her multi-platinum debut CD Thankful is a worthwhile treat too. The album is a vocal extravaganza!

‘The trouble with love is’ sees Kelly crooning the romantic ballad with great efficiency. The Grammy-nominated, jamming ‘Miss Independent’ is upbeat and will have you moving!

Three good tracks are followed by ‘Just missed the train’. This mellow, emotional number has great notes-you’ll love it! Both the vocals and instrument are great throughout and this is an extremely strong debut album.

‘Beautiful Disaster’ is good especially the lyrics, but I liked the live version better. ‘You thought wrong' and ‘Anytime’ are tuneful but the title song ‘Thankful’ is good but not as great as some of the other tracks.

My all-time favourite, the chart-topping first Clarkson single ‘A Moment Like This’ is next and boy is it awesome! The record-breaking, fastest selling single of all time, this smash hit broke the Beatles' record for the biggest leap ever to number one, from 52 to 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, where it topped for two weeks! ‘Before Your Love’ perfectly pulls the curtain and is extremely hummable. Every Kelly Clarkson song reinstates the fact that this diva can really sing and is on her way to becoming one of music's greats. If you appreciate talent, do buy this one!
