Hi kids,

Once upon a time there was a little girl who dreamt of becoming an astronaut. She would proudly tell her mom that one day she would touch the skies. Her mom would laugh and cuddle her. Deep down she thought of the constraints that her little girl would have to face if she chose to follow her dream -- a male-oriented society to begin with, social taboos and family constraints, the list would go on. Yet she never discouraged the child. She knew deep down that if her child chose to do something she would find the courage to follow her dreams. As time went by, the little girl grew up, finished her schooling, went to college and began to pursue what she had always dreamt of. Her relatives and friends thought it was impossible and would discourage her. They thought that she would be better off taking cooking classes rather than studying aerospace sciences. Her teachers too would think that she was making castles in the air.

This would make her sad. One day when she came home after a rather long day, she seemed unusually quiet. She had been ridiculed by her best friend who too thought that it was impossible for her to be an astronaut. When her mother asked her what the matter was, she hugged her and began to cry, “Mom won’t I ever become an astronaut, shan’t I ever be able to touch the skies?” To this her mother replied, “Always believe in the beauty of your dreams, find the courage to follow what you believe in and you shall eventually be able to achieve what you aspire.”

This gave the girl courage and she worked hard to achieve her goal. She faced many obstacles but as time went by she overcame them and went abroad to pursue a degree in her chosen field. She graduated with flying colours, and a professor at her university guided her on how to apply to an international space organisation. She was successful and when she was to go on her first space mission, the words of her mother echoed in her mind, “Always believe in the beauty of your dreams.”

So no matter how difficult it seems, always find the courage to follow your dream. You won’t be disappointed.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Ed
