It was during these holidays that we planned to tour Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur and Genting Highlands). Of course, Kuala Lumpur has its own charms, but Genting is an amazing place. So, dear readers, be ready to join me in this beautiful journey coming up!
Genting is a beautiful place, in northern Malaysia, bearing beautiful landscapes; it has a large, stunning theme park, which serves as a wonderful place not only for children but for adults too. The Theme Park is Genting’s major pride and attraction, and people come from all over the world to see this magnificent place. It is located in ‘First World Hotel’, a colourful place that is a stay hotel, and bears this Theme Park, which consists of the ‘indoor Theme Park’, as well as the ‘outdoor Theme Park’.
First World Hotel
First World Hotel and Plaza is a huge, lovely and colourful building. It has many shops, restaurants of every kind, bakeries, kids’ rides, and what not! It is painted in rainbow colours from the outside, and the hotel is of about twenty-four floors.
This plaza is superbly decorated not only from the outside, but from the inside too. It is very neat and clean. Trees are planted in suitable places, with wreaths of small light bulbs around them, and to make it more attractive, things like the model of life-size orang-utan, etc. are placed on them. Replicas of the world’s famous monuments, like the Statue of Liberty, have been placed to make the place look even better.
Spooky horror houses and Ripley’s ‘Believe it or not’ stalls are also there. Ripley’s ‘Believe it or not’ consists of amazing things, the best part of which is a cylindrical tunnel with dark walls bearing glow-in-the-dark polka dots. Inside the tunnel is a bridge with handles for support while walking, as the tunnel walls continue rotating, making us feel very, very dizzy.
Kids’ rides are considered part of the indoor Theme Park, and include small, low-speed ferris wheels, bumper cars, and also roller coasters, but they are not as fast as the ones in the outdoor park. It also consists of a bowling alley, a Snow World, which is a hall with real snowfall in it, as well as a Fantasy World, which has various kinds of video games, and nothing more than that. Fantasy World is a long hall with many kinds of Sega games. The Snow World is a beautiful place worth visiting, with low temperature, and snow falling from the roof.
The First World Hotel leads to the outdoor Theme Park. It contains wonderful, high speed thrill rides, and much more…
The indoor theme park
The indoor park contains kids’ rides such as a carousel and bumper cars. The rides are also well decorated. For example, making the car track on a model of Eiffel Tower makes a simple, slow ride for kids’ cars highly attractive. It also contains a 4-D theatre, which I liked best.
The 4-D theatre shows different movies at different times. Some of them are Alice in Wonderland and Ali Baba. We watched Alice in Wonderland, which was a short one of about fifteen minutes. It was real fun. We were given huge black glasses to wear, there was not a single light switched on, and we saw this cute movie, during which whatever happened to Alice happens to you! For instance, if Alice fell down, your seat will jerk, making you feel as if you have fallen down, too. Or if a spider is coming towards Alice, you will feel as if it is advancing towards you, and that this cartoon-like spider is a real one!
The outdoor theme park
The outdoor Theme Park is really breathtaking. It is wonderful! It has many, many incredible rides. There are popcorn stalls, cotton candy stalls, noodle stalls, ice cream stalls, general stores, and many other attractions. There is also a colourful children’s playpen.
The thrill rides consist mostly of roller coasters. Asia’s first roller coaster, the Cyclone, is situated there. It is pretty high, and fast too, and it was a real scary experience sitting in this ride. However, it is not as fast and as thrilling as the wonderful Corkscrew.
The Corkscrew is the only double-loop roller coaster in Malaysia that spins up to a height of 90 feet. It hangs from a rail, is very, very fast, and also turns upside-down for a second or two. Believe me, it was the scariest, or, should I say, the best of all the rides.
The Flying Coaster looks really scary. It is enclosed like a box, and at first, we are lying upside-down. Then, it suddenly speeds up to such an extent that it covers a long distance in not more than ten to twelve seconds. It rotates as well as revolves, which makes it even scarier.
The Genting Sky Venture is cool, plus it looks scary. It is a state-of-the-art sky diving wind tunnel with a maximum speed of 120 mph winds to keep you airborne.
There are many, many other rides which I can’t describe, or it will take a lot of time and space. You are only allowed to sit on a ride if you are of the right height and weight.
