It was a very cold evening and the rain was pouring heavily. Three best friends, Asad, Amir and Sajid were sitting by the fire, warming themselves and enjoying their cups of coffee. They were all having a fine discussion about ghosts and were telling spooky stories to each other when Asad at once interrupted, “I don't believe in anything like ghosts and I am not afraid of anything.”
“If what you are saying is true, why don't you prove it to us?" said Amir with a sharp look on his face.
“How do you want me to prove it?” said Asad in a brave voice.
Sajid, being the mischieveous of all in their group, at once gave an idea to Asad that he should go to the graveyard at midnight and stick a knife into the last grave.
As soon as Asad heard this, he was stunned, but knowing that if he backed out he would be the laughing stock of his friends, he accepted the challenge.
At midnight the three friends gathered at the gate of the graveyard. The sky was clear and the full moon was shining brightly over them. There was complete silence around them, the only noise they could hear was of the dogs’ howling.
Asad had mentally prepared himself for the task he had to fulfil, but was still a bit nervous while taking out the knife from his pocket. Then he entered the graveyard and clumsily made his way through the graves towards the last one. The moonlight was the only source of light that helped him find his way. He finally stumbled upon the last grave, and shaking from head to toe, bent down and raised his knife to stick it through the grave. While fulfilling his task, he did not realise that he had accidentally pinned the knife through his shirt into the grave.
Then, to leave the place as soon as he possibly could, he turned around but stopped, his hair stood on ends and his face went pale. He started shivering all over. He felt something pulling him backwards. At that time a thought came to his mind that maybe it’s the man inside the grave pulling him to take revenge. He screamed with all his might for help. His friends, who were standing by the gate, heard him and ran to see what the matter was.
When they reached the place where Asad was standing, they saw him sweating all over, trying to free himself from the grip; they laughed so much that their stomachs started aching. When Asad saw them laughing, he stood still for a moment, then turned around. He too wasn’t able to control himself from laughing when he figured out his foolish mistake. Then, freeing his shirt from the knife, all the friends headed towards the gate and quickly left the place before anything strange happened.
