Confidential to JM It is wonderful to find a young person like you so keen on acquiring higher education, despite the odds. Now if only all young people around would start thinking this way…
Anyway JM, although school-going students are not legally supposed to have proper jobs, you can always indulge in odd money-minting occupations that could most definitely help you monetarily. Since you have passed your ‘O’ levels, your best option would be to give tuitions. Look at your strengths and see what subjects you’re good at.
Spread the word that you’re available for tutoring ‘O’ level students; you’ll be surprised to learn how many people are looking for good tutors at reasonable rates. Of course, you will first have to sit down, think and discuss the timings that will be most convenient for you with your potential students. Don’t put your study hours at jeopardy though; think thoroughly about the time you can spare.
Along with spreading your name by word of mouth, you could also register yourself at a couple of local tuition centres. Open up any Sunday classified newspaper and check out the “tuitions wanted” section. Call up the tuition centre’s office and get yourself registered. It is an easy free procedure where you can consider tutoring a host of students and select the most convenient ones.
Of course, since you have competitive language skills, you could also consider freelancing for various publications, such as your very own Young World. You could also look up the Sunday classified and search for ads asking for freelancers/online researchers/paper writers and contact them.
However, before you indulge in all of this, I will first strongly recommend that you write a letter to your high school’s principal and request financial aid in the form of either a concession, loan, grant or scholarship. Most schools are willing to invest in their promising, hard working students and I’m sure, you won’t be disappointed either if you have a genuine case to back you up. (Your school will probably call you for a detailed interview to evaluate your needs.) If this hopefully works out for you, you won’t have to look for a job anyway. Good luck!
Dear Super Sis, I am in love with Maria Sharapova. My only desire is to ‘contact’ her once in my life. Please send me her contact number or email address.
Worried lover
Well, boy, I can’t guarantee ‘contact’ but there is a definite chance you could send your sentiments across to her. She has an official website,
http://www.mariasharapova.com/. Go check. Under “Club Sharapova”, there is an option of ‘Ask Maria’. Apparently she gets back to her fans through this website. Try your luck. Who knows, you might actually turn into a handsome prince. Ribit!
