Angels and demons

By Sikander Ali Kiani

Hats off to Mr Dan Brown once again! This guy never ceases to amaze me. Angels and Demons is the predecessor to the well acclaimed international bestseller, the Da Vinci Code; however, it can be safely said that this is much more interesting, illuminating, adventurous, dramatic and appealing than the Da Vinci Code. (Still tastes differ!)

The story is about the Vatican being held hostage by one of the oldest, most secret, feared and most powerful anti-church brotherhood that walked the face of the earth centuries ago — The Illuminati. The church was victorious over the brotherhood initially which was formed by none other than the Great Galileo Galili and a group of other scientist. Now The Illuminati has mysteriously resurfaced to take revenge, and it threatens to “Evaporate the Vatican off the planet” with a new lethal weapon — The Anti Matter. It all starts with a murder of a scientist who is branded and the Harvard Symbologist — Robert Langdon is summoned to interpret the meaning of this practice; this then leads to the strings of clues and ultimate Illuminati lair, but was he able to save the church?

The plot was so gripping that I did not mind skipping my meals whilst I read the book and I was not disappointed. The end was simply incredible. The best thing is that Dan Brown manages to give you inch-perfect details of the Vatican, its secrets, the lifestyle of its inhabitants including the pope, very secret Christian history and facts and figures about so many things that you are left wondering — how does the guy do it all? Highly recommended. Grab yourself a copy right now!!
