Who on earth doesn't want to look his/her best on special occasions like Eid? With the arrival of the holy month of Ramazan all of us start scurrying around the city to shop for items to look our best on the ‘Big’ day. Following the trend, maintaining elegance and looking awesome is what we aim for. But at times, due to lack of awareness regarding the latest trends, we end up buying stuff which is completely out of fashion and regret it later.
But don't lose heart; Young World is here to provide you information about the latest trends regarding various areas of fashion. So, this year when you go shopping for Eid, keep in mind a few things related to the latest fashion statements in town.
Selecting the outfit
The most important item of Eid shopping is, of course, the dress. Whatever you wear should compliment your personality. Remember that clothes add to a man but they don’t make a man. Youngsters should prefer not go for western dressing as Eid is purely an Islamic festival. For girls, Shalwar Kameez with light embroidery on the border of the kameez, sleeves, neck and dupatta is suggested and the shirt length in vogue is slightly shorter than usual. Colours of the season are white, mauve, turquoise, peach and other pastel shades. So, avoid bright colours while selecting an Eid dress. Choodidaar Pyjama is also 'in' with a normal sized kameez. Chunri and shaded stuff, however, is 'out' this season. For young girls lace frilled frocks or skirt blouse is also an option as they may not want to wear shalwar kameez or find it bothersome.
For boys, kurta shalwar is the fashion statement this Eid. Men look sanctimonious in white kurta shalwar on the first day of Eid as they wear it especially for Eid prayers. On the second and third day, pant and shirt with or without a narrow tie short in width gives an impressive look. Single-knotted tie with light coloured plain shirt is very popular among young boys. Dress pants and shirts are preferred over jeans and T-shirts on occasions like Eid. Yet if you are really fond of wearing jeans, then wear it with short Kurta with light embroidery on the cuff and neck. Bell-bottomed pants and pyjamas are no more in fashion. Avoid wearing skin tight T-shirts to show off your muscular arms as it looks indecent on days like Eid.
Choosing footwear
Attire looks incomplete unless it is accompanied with suitable footwear. Always choose a comfortable yet stylish shoe. For girls, strapped sandals with and without heels are in fashion these days. Sandals with glittering beads are available in the market in various designs and can be matched with the colour of your Eid jora. Slippers and light-weight Kohla Puri chappal (particularly the one adorned with ghungroos) too are in fashion but it depends on your choice of the type of footwear you desire.
Khussas are 'out' for both boys and girls. Men can choose between Peshawari chappal and Kohla-Puri chappal if they are wearing Kurta Shalwar.
Go for joggers with the jeans and if you are wearing dress pants then matching boots are the best option. Clean or polish your shoe before wearing it as dirty shoes spoil the entire look of your dress and personality.
Make-up
To look beautiful is everyone's dream; however, just a stunning dress no longer makes a women or a man -- it is the face that speaks for us as well. A nice make-over changes the entire look of a person so special attention should be given to it. Matte make-up in pastel colours is 'in'. Lipsticks, however, might be glossy. Either use glossy lipsticks or a mere lip gloss. Don’t apply lip gloss over a matte lipstick as it gives a dirty look.
Eyes can't be neglected while doing make-up. Black eye-liners and mascaras add beauty to the eyes and give them a mesmerising look. Choose light colours for your eye-shadows matching your dress. While applying make-up, keep in mind that the weather is hot and humid these days throughout the country, therefore, properly cleanse your skin and apply a skin toner in case of an oily skin and moisturiser in case of dry skin. Don’t use glossy eye-shadows and blush-on. Simplicity is the trend these days.
Jewellery
Women all over the world adorn themselves with ornaments but traditionally the women of the sub-continent are lured very much by jewellery. Beautiful, colourful and elegant designs of earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings and bangles entice every girl; however, the selection lies with the style as well as the colour of the Eid dress. There is a profusion of jewellery studded with stones and jharao work (using a combination of stones) available in breath-taking colour combinations and exquisite quality of work, these days. Heavy jewellery was in vogue till the last few months but the trend seems to be changing now. Long earrings are, however, still in style.
Eastern women have always been in love with jingling tinkling bangles. Colourful bangles are considered as an epitome of eastern beauty and elegance. Glass bangles have an edge over those made of metal because of their availability in various designs and colours at affordable prices. Crushed authentic sawayyan-coated glass bangles, bangles covered with dabka work and floral appliqué available in different colours are en vogue. However, matte bangles that look like velvet but are actually painted are out of fashion. Choose your favourite design of glass bangles matching the colour of your dress to add colour, delicacy and beauty to your Eid.
Mehndi galore
How can mehndi be left out when we are celebrating Eid? Eastern damsels look incomplete unless they paint their hands with intricate henna patterns. After wearing bangles and hands painted in twirls and whirls with mehndi, every girl looks like a nymph. Add glitters of various colours to your mehndi to beautify your hands. These glitters are easily available in the market at an affordable price. Apply mehndi on your hands on Chand Raat, so that a dark colour appears on Eid day.
Boys’ accessories
Poor chaps can neither wear bangles nor adorn their hands with henna. But wrist watches have always been a hot favourite for them. Wrist watches come in a wide range of varieties and prices. Strapped wrist watches with big dials are popular in men. However, at the same time, chained wrist watches are not 'out' of fashion.
Large-sized, metal-made glasses with semi-rimless styles are catching on. When choosing sun-glasses, give special attention to the frame that best suits the shape of your face.
Choose belts with large sized stylish buckles in colours that match your pants.
Dear readers, the importance of fashion is there but again don't wear something that is not going to look good on you. Adopt only those fashions that suit you and go well with your individual personality. It's our right to look beautiful and take on the latest fashions but during the course of doing so, we must never forget that we belong to a conservative society.
Whatever we wear should be decent yet stylish and should fulfil the purpose of covering the body. So, this year when you go for Eid shopping, keep in mind that we need to conserve and promote our unique eastern identity. Happy Eid in advance!
