Saad and his experience

By Hiba Rauf

One day, a naughty boy went into the kitchen and decided to bake a chocolate cake for it was his mother’s birthday. Everyone had gone shopping except his grandfather who was fast asleep. He first took out the recipe book from the kitchen drawer. Then he went to the dining hall from where he brought in a chair to the kitchen. He sat down on the chair and read the entire recipe.

“Yummy, it’ll be brilliant and mum will certainly like it,” he said. After that he stood on the chair and took out the flour from the cabinet. As the flour box was too big and heavy to be lifted by a young seven-year-old boy, Saad suddenly slipped and the flour box fell from his hands. Most of the flour spilled over the floor, but he still managed to put some of it back into the box. Saad was now completely covered with flour, from head to toe. Later, he dusted off the flour from his clothes and hair. Then he put three cups of flour into the bowl with three teaspoons of sugar and two cups of salt in it.

Next he put one litre of milk in the batter with fifteen tablespoons of baking powder. He mixed them with a spoon because he hated to use his hands instead. As a result all the batter spilled out, and some of it fell on his clothes. After that he took out the cocoa powder and made some syrup. He lit the stove oven and put all the watery batter into the pan and then kept it in the oven on a very high temperature.

After doing so he planned to wipe out all the mess he had created, so he went into the washroom and brought a bucket of soapy water and a mop. He splashed all the soapy water on the floor. When the soapy water mixed with the flour the floor, it became stiff. Saad tried to mop it but he was unable to wipe it out. So, he began scrubbing it wildly with the mop. Suddenly the handle of the mop collided with his head and he bruised his forehead. His head hurt and felt irritable, so he left the mop there and decided to go and sleep.

After some minutes, a burning smell started coming from the kitchen. He jumped off from his bed and ran into the kitchen so he could turn off the stove. As he ran, he slipped on the soapy water which was on the floor and again hurt himself. He somehow managed to get up and turn off the oven. He noticed that his elbow was bleeding but he ignored it and took the cake out of the oven. The cake was burnt, and he was extremely sad, but suddenly, an idea came to his mind.

He took out the cream and some fruits from the refrigerator. He squeezed almost all the cream on the cake and decorated it with some delicious strawberries. “Now it looks much better!” he exclaimed delightedly.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Saad was frightened. He went towards the door and opened it. His parents were standing there and they were shocked to see their son in such a messy state. They came inside the house and saw that it was even messier: the water was spilled everywhere in the TV lounge, the bedspreads were too dirty and when they came into the kitchen, the worst sight met their eyes. They were surprised and shocked, as all the utensils were lying scattered here and there on the floor, the oven door was open, milk was trickling from the marble slab, covered with squeezed strawberries, and the empty tube of cream was lying in the bowl, and to top it all off, the floor was sticky and wet.

At last, they saw the cake which was lying unnoticed on the marble slab and they understood what may have happened. When they questioned Saad about it, he started stammering and said “HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!” His mother laughed and hugged him. When they tasted the cake, it was so horrible that no one could bear eating it, but Saad did not mind.

Later, Saad helped his mother to clean the mess he had created. When his grandfather woke up, he found that everything was completely normal and his son and daughter-in-law had returned home from shopping.
