Heavy rainfall

On July 30 there was heavy rainfall in Karachi. Many people were injured due to this and a few also died. It was very shocking when I saw the slide going down the news channel. We hadn’t thought that the rain that we were joyous for would be so harmful. We, children, think that rain is a gift of God but it can also be harmful because of the flooding it causes on roads and lanes. Our drainage system hardly is in working condition and because of the blockage the water doesn’t drain and causes people to die and get injured. We must try to make our cities and drainage system work properly and we must not throw rubbish everywhere because this too is a major cause for drain blockage.

Our day of independence

On August 14 our beautiful country Pakistan appeared as an independent nation on the world map. Our elders struggled hard and many people lost their lives to win this country. Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah wanted the country’s people to become true Muslims, and Pakistan to become a developed country. But today we can see that neither are we good Muslims, nor are we working hard to make our nation stronger; instead we are destroying our country ourselves.

Did our elders want to see our country in this situation? No! They sacrificed their lives to see a developed country on the world’s map. We should realise that and try to make our country the world’s best country and show patriotism towards our beautiful country.

To those children who only decorate their house on August 14 I would like to say that this day does not just mean decorating the house, it also means understanding how much our Quaid struggled and how our elders sacrificed to create Pakistan.

In the end I only want to thank Allah that I am a Pakistani and I would like to give a little message to my friends that: Be a proud Pakistani and strive even harder to make it a better place to live in.

Israel’s aggression

Israeli troops and air forces have been bombing at the Lebanese for more then three weeks, and America is supporting them by providing a large number of laser guided missiles and other dangerous weapons. Beirut, normally called the “Paris of East”, has been converted into ruins.

The matter to consider is what we can do in this regard, because our rulers seem to be powerless even though they have great powers.

Now it’s our responsibility to support Lebanon, through our money and our pens. Unfortunately, I’m unable to properly explain how we can help them by money, but we can write more about this issue in newspapers and magazines. We should inform our friends and others about the severity of this issue. If today we don’t raise our voice in this regard, then no one will help us when we face hard times.

Bitter sympathy

Days are simply passing by and with them the lives of hundreds of people. It is a pity that our world leaders have too little to say. All they do is appear on TV channels, make headlines and add their final -- rather magic ingredient in the end -- words of sympathy.

Expressions like “we are deeply concerned for the loss of innocent lives” or we are taking every step necessary” and many others are almost heard everyday with very little truth in them.

What they fail to realise is that these gentle words won’t bring the dead back to life, nor would it in any way reduce the intense sorrow of an affected family. It is disturbing to note that even our sensible leaders who are quite well aware of what’s good and what’s bad for the world as a whole, have so far failed to understand that war is, by all means, an aggressive and evil thing.

It’s time that they woke up and address this problem with a matter of urgency; besides it is time for the citizens of this world to decide what should be done, that’s because it’s no simple issue. Simply talking won’t mend matters; it’s time for some decisive action.
