A man's ultimate treasure, the brain, is an acclaimed wealth and is able to perform miracles. If rightly steered and maintained, it dumbfounds even the owner, but if devilish ideas arrest it, it becomes nearly impossible to convince it otherwise. It can be easily assumed that the fate of the world rests with the brain. It may lead to rejuvenation or devastation, prosperity or extinction.
Nowadays, people are struggling for the brain, some wanting to enhance its abilities while others seeking to destroy it.
Violence is a big word with an even bigger impact. It is nothing except for a creation of the human mind.
Violence is the outcome of the devilish notions brought about by the brain and it has prevailed upon the Earth, sparing only the Sun and the Moon to breathe. Murder, assaults, thefts, and cheating are some common examples of violence. Prevalent as it is, it is really difficult for some people to believe that its snares are also present in religious and educational places, such as mosques, churches, temples, schools, etc. However, the difficulty in believing the ever-so-massive presence of violence is gradually subsiding because violence does exist in schools and such places where it seems unlikely to exist.
Though it seems incredible, school violence can be really perilous and can adversely affect both teachers and students. As students spend most of their time in school, anything affecting them plays a vital role in their lives. Some wounds inflicted upon them may disturb their performance throughout their lives.
One common example of school violence is bullying in which the older students or the so-called stronger and superior class-fellows agitate and tease the comparatively "weaker or inferior" students. They may also taunt and make them upset due to religious prejudices or differences in class or creed which may discourage the students from attending classes and they might, as a result, indulge in depression.
The bullies may even form gangs and harass the victims occasionally outside schools which may make the victims feel frustrated and annoyed. Another type of school violence occurs because of unhealthy competition which arouses jealousy and enmity. This also leads to despair and unnecessary fretfulness. The favouritism practiced by most teachers subdues and restrains the enthusiastic and hardworking spirit of students. It doesn't let new talent emerge and kills the determination to strive in students as they start feeling that no matter what they do, they will not be appreciated. Media and violent games are also to be blamed for this kind of criminal attitude.
Exposure to various firearms may convince them that they need to use these to achieve their goals. Young teenagers are often physically hyperactive and are not familiar with acceptable social behaviour. Quarrels and disagreements between close friends may cause a student to misbehave or take it out all on him or herself by ending his or her life or simply by turning into a hermit.
In recent years, school violence has caught the attention of many and since then, individuals and organisations have been endeavouring to counteract and diminish the violence in schools. The first step in sorting out a problem is to analyse its causes, which if done in detail helps in improving the situation drastically. Secondly, as teachers are directly concerned with the matter, they should maintain their authority and try to maintain a balance, so that students think twice before disobeying any rules. They should also provide good counselling and should try to understand some of the problems students are facing. Any kind of bullying or baseless teasing should be taken note of seriously.
Workshops and seminars should be conducted at schools, to enhance students' capabilities and enliven their motivation to work hard. Parents should be informed of their children's performances weekly and any deterioration in their performances should be taken seriously.
Parents should also keep a check on the student's time spent at home and they should approach their problems appropriately. While in contact with the media, children must be told time and again that whatever they see on TV or listen on radio is just for entertainment and not to be applied to oneself. They should also discourage prejudices and unnecessary hatred in children.
In a nutshell, one can recall the saying 'nip the evil in the bud' before it affects you. As mentioned before, an ill-guided and evil-minded brain leads to violence, so its remedies also lie within the brain. If people are made aware and 'taught' about school violence, it will decrease violence at a considerable rate as compared to curbing it by force.
