Keeping the environment clean

Pollution is the greatest hazard ever. All over the world, natural resources are being destroyed for one reason or another. Protecting the environment and preserving natural resources are our responsibilities in order to make this world a better place for our future generations.

We should keep our environment clean. First of all we should be good citizens by keeping our houses, our neighbourhood, our cities and our country clean. We should not cut down trees; instead, we should plant even more trees and keep greenery alive in our cities. We should help reduce pollution of all sorts. The causes of air pollution should also be reduced, such as the emitting of harmful gasses which harms the Ozone layer. The thinning of Ozone layer will make the diseases like skin cancer more common.

In the end, I'd like to ask everyone to please keep your city, country and yourself clean because Allah likes those people who keep themselves and their surroundings neat and clean.

Co-education: good or bad?

In her article “Co-education: a must for better academics” (YW, July 22) Yasra Yafeez wrote that boys and girls should study together and that doing so builds confidence. I don’t agree with that; as far as I know studying in co-education school girls can’t express themselves as they feel shy in the presence of boys. And as far as pardah is concerned if you are wearing it inside the class how could you talk, write and read freely? Then again we have the problem of having crushes. A valid proof of this is the Super Sis column that is full of letters like, “I am in class VIII there is a boy in my class who I like very much!” Blah blah!

I favour co-education at the level of college and university where people have proper control over themselves and possess the knowledge of right and wrong! The major schools of Karachi that are either under Catholic or Parsi administration respect the idea of separate girls and boys schools. So Yasra dear think before you write!
