Hi kids!

The heavy rains over the last weekend brought a welcome change in the weather all over the country. We, especially in Karachi, were waiting for the monsoon to begin so that we could get some respite from the heat.

But when the rains finally came they were accompanied by a lot of problems too. Many areas were left with no power supply for many hours at a stretch due to snapped wires or some other problem. Roads were flooded and people had to face a lot of problems while commuting. The problems were more severe in low-lying areas and kuchi abadis.

Children took this as an opportunity and enjoyed the weather to their heart’s content, bathing and swimming in the rain or accumulated water. There’s no harm in having fun and enjoying yourself but you should remember that you have to take care of yourself too. You should not get engrossed in playful activities so much as to forget your safety. Just remember a few things while you are out there enjoying yourself: change your wet clothes as soon as you can so that you do not catch a cold and fall sick; while walking out in accumulated water take care that there are no potholes or hurdles over which you might trip; and do not touch any switch, wires or electricity poles if they are wet or with wet hands. This is very dangerous and people have been electrocuted in this way.

Enjoy the weather and the special food that your mothers make in this season, like pakoras and samosas.

See you next week!

Bye!

Ed
