Dawn ’n Dolls

By Yasmeen Tahira

Like every year, this year too Dawn Group of newspaper brings out the style aspect in Karachites lives…. Yes Dawn Lifestyles summer 2006. The style embraced colours of all good brands which were exposed to more than 300,000 people in three days in four halls of the Expo Center. More than 50 brands of delicious and tempting food (fast food to traditional) were available at the food street in the outer area.

To add more interest and colour like last year it held a pet show (all pets except dogs ‘n’ cats) which captivated the eyes of all animal lovers at the venue.

This time Dawn came up with a very new and unique idea of organising a doll show to attract one of the most important segments of the society; yes …children, specially girls. This event was one of the unique opportunities for the girls to display their collection of dolls. Since age was not a barrier, everyone could participate.

More than 120 girls registered themselves for the show. It was not only the doll collections, which were spectacular, but also the way they were displayed. Imagine a rural hand made doll placed in a farm setting, surrounded with tube wells, tractors, farmers and animals, in short creating a whole village ambiance.

Barbie dolls with their houses and accessories; British princess doll with her prince, kings, and queen in the royal castle. There were Chitrali dolls, which were showing up the culture of Chitral and northern areas of Pakistan, Japanese dolls and fashion dolls, some were settled in their dream doll houses, some were sleeping in their strollers.

The main categories of dolls, which were shown up at the doll show, were Rag Dolls, Hand Craft, Cultural Dolls, Porcelain Dolls, Play Dolls, Accessories, etc.

Thousands of kids with their parents who visited the show, enjoyed and appreciated the girls for their care and love for dolls, and I am sure most of them definitely would have decided to take up doll collection as a hobby.

The prizes were given to the most dandiest and dazzling dolls displaying them well. The judge Mr. Salwat Ali nominated the winners of the show in different categories.
