When Mustafain saw his friend, Bilal, playing the guitar at a college concert, he promised himself that one day he would learn to play it too. When he went home after the concert, without a second thought he asked his father for money to buy a guitar. Mustafain’s Father who was against everything related to music refused. Mustafain wasn’t really disappointed. Determined to learn to play guitar, he called his friend Bilal, and told him the whole story. Bilal had an old guitar that he didn’t play anymore, and so said that Mustafain could take it.
When Mustafain got the guitar from Bilal he practised day and night, not wanting to stop until he achieved his goal. He arranged for guitar lessons but they did not prove to be of much use. Mustafain’s father was very angry with him, because Mustafain had stopped paying attention to his studies and his grades were falling. Gradually Mustafain learned a little and having become over confident, challenged Bilal. Bilal, a much more experienced player, accepted and it was decided that they would play during the college’s annual dinner.
Bilal was the first one to play and everyone loved and cheered his performance. When it was Mustafain’s turn, he showed up in an odd get up of torn jeans and an old shirt. The audience laughed and hooted, all the while knowing how bad a performer Mustafain was. When he started playing, he noticed how his fingers kept slipping as a result of which the music sounded much different. The crowed, disappointed to have to hear such stuff after Bilal’s performance, threw eggs at him.
On the request of the principal the audience stopped. Without waiting for the result Mustafain went home. The next day Bilal came to visit him. Mustafain unwillingly asked him to come in. When Bilal was seated he advised Mustafain that playing guitar was not his strong suite and that he should stick to something like sports, which he was good at. Angry that Bilal wants to preach to him, Mustafain asked him to leave. However, after a while, when he had calmed down he realised his own folly and decided to start participating in sports.
The sports gala went well for Mustafain. He performed incredibly and defeated his rivals. At the end of the Sports gala he was declared the sportsman of the Year for their college. Mustafain, happy at having finally accomplished something, felt like he was on top of the world. Realising that he had been very rude to Bilal, Mustafain went to see him the next day to apologise. Bilal, a humble person, said, “Remember that playing guitar was never your strong suite. It was sports you were best at. Always choose you priorities according to your abilities.”
They talked for a long time and then Bilal played a beautiful song for Mustafain and his success. Mustafain’s father was very pleased with his son, as participating in sports was helping Mustafain broaden his mind.
