Don’t you feel bad when you step outdoors and find heaps of garbage and overflowing gutters everywhere? That’s the problem we have to face when people, especially those living in large cities, do not behave sensibly like civilised citizens of a civilised society. Now, don’t tell me that you have not added to that garbage or choked that gutter.
I know you didn’t do it deliberately but still you are responsible for it. What did you think you were doing when you threw candy and ice cream wrappers and empty chips and popcorn packets on the road? You were contributing to building up that mountain of garbage. And not only that, the plastic bags thrown about carelessly found their way into open drains and choked them.
Now you understand what happens when you just won’t listen to what you have been told over and over again and why you were asked thousands of times not to litter. But then it was just one small wrapper or plastic bag. You see how a mountain is created out of small bits, the same way drops of water combine to make an ocean.
So now when you have come to realise your mistake, it’s time to rectify it. I know, it is the municipal corporation’s job to clean up the mess but at least you can take care not to add to it. You should make sure that from today onwards you will not litter anywhere and only deposit the waste properly in trash bins. Remind your friends to do the same. Also instruct your domestic helpers not to leave garbage anywhere except at designated bins or collect the trash in large plastic bags and hand it over to the garbage collectors.
When you do your small bit you will notice that the huge piles of garbage have begun to shrink. A day will come when your city will be as clean as your house.
