Do holidays bore you?

By Tazeen Razi

I’m sure holidays bore you especially when you’re totally free and have enough time to do anything in the world but you don’t have anything to do. Do you have these slight moments when you think you’ve got nothing to do and you’ll die of boredom. I do.

This is very normal and happens to everyone. You can overcome it easily. Here are some tips to kill boredom:

Reading: That’s the best thing to do when you’re bored. Reading keeps you totally engrossed in the matter you’re reading. You’ll never even know how time passed.

Writing: You could always go for plan B — keeping a diary. Pen down your thoughts and feelings into it daily. You’ll have loads of fun. Writing an article or two for a newspaper or magazine can be really interesting. I tell you, it sure does kill boredom right! That’s what I am doing right now!

Music: Soothing music can really relieve the mind of tensions. If you’re being bugged by your pestering siblings, just lock yourself up in your room, alone, and listen to some music. Grunge or rock music to kill boredom is a bad idea, it’s not soothing but it gives you energy rather than soothe your nerves. But, what kind of music your like to hear is totally up to you.

Sports: If you’re interested in some kind of sport, you could practice in your lawn, garage or that park near your house. Gather some friends and you could have a match. Besides, sports will also keep you fit physically and you can run around the house doing chores for your mum. Or maybe not!

Chores: I know! Chores are boredom ‘incorporated’ (pun intended here). I have to do these all the time. But, just imagine your mum’s satisfied smile when she sees the house sparkling clean by her sweet little angels (well, devils in disguise, to be precise!). That’ll be worth the hard work. Or you could sign a contract with your dad (just like my brother and I did!) and throw that lazy maid out and do all of the work yourself for money.

Exercise: Why don’t you stretch those muscles out which have been fatigued due to sitting in front of the TV for endless hours at a time? Try touching your toes or you could create your own karate steps (that’s what I do!). It’s all really fun and even more fun when you have a friend to use as a punch-bag! Just kidding!

Sleep: If you’ve done everything and are still bored, just get some good sleep. Though I’d not recommend sleeping through half of the day! You could also have a sleep-over with friends and indulge in a pillow fight!

Recreation: You could go to the museum where you’ll see dead mummies, or maybe just an amusement park with living people might be better! The mall where you get the latest gaming consoles might be a good idea.

Cinema: No, I’m not taking about those cheap Pakistani cinemas. I’m talking about the ones in your home. Oh, you heard me right! Nowadays, every house has a home theatre system. Just buy a new DVD, grab some popcorn and invite loads of friends over to watch the new movie. It’s the best thing, besides reading, to kill boredom.

Dress-up: You could always dress-up strangely and do make-up. This is for both boys and girls. Yes! Invite friends or cousins over (or maybe both of them) and arrange a “Weirdo Party”! Take loads of snaps so that you can have great laughs later on.

Oh, man! I am tired of writing! And I’ve still got chores to do. Maybe I’ll just call it a day and read a book or just listen to some music. Or maybe not! I’ve got to dress-up as a weirdo and arrange a party! So I’ll just go now and tell you later about the party! Adios, ami-gos!
