We all scream for Ice Cream

By Sahar Majid

Summer season has begun with all its colours and enjoyments. Fresh fruits, refreshing drinks, picnics at seaside and summer camps are all the pleasures of this season. But you are forgetting something … of course, ice cream. It’s cold. It’s sweet. It’s creamy. And that burst of fruit-filled, nutty, or chocolate-chunky flavour can be incredibly refreshing when the steamy heat of midday starts to weigh you down. No doubt, ice cream is the summer’s most delightful treat and life is really boring without a scoop of ice cream. Ice cream is the only delight which is a favourite with people of every age group.

Children, teenagers, adults and oldies –– nobody can resist ice cream. People buying large quantities of ice cream cups, cones, packs and sticks is a common scene during summer. But which is the most favourite flavour of ice cream? And which form (cups, cone, stick or litre packs) appeals to most of the customers?

The most popular flavours of ice cream are vanilla, chocolate, butter pecan, strawberry, chocolate chip, French vanilla, cookies and cream, vanilla fudge ripple, cherry, chocolate almond, coffee and chocolate marshmallow. Plain or mixed with dry fruits and chocolate chips, ice cream tastes wonderful anyway.

Saba, a college student loves chocolate ice cream. Whether it is a cone, stick or cup; be it plain or mixed with dry fruits or wafers –– chocolate flavoured ice cream is something, Saba can’t resist. But she doesn’t like any other flavour (vanilla, strawberry, mango, etc.) mixed with chocolate. On the contrary, Sana, a schoolteacher, doesn’t like chocolate ice cream in any form. But she is addicted to pistachio. She also loves to eat ice cream mixed with different dry fruits such as almonds, peanuts, cashew nuts, etc.

Salman, a college student who also works part-time in a private firm, loves to devour the ice cream. He doesn’t find enough time from his busy schedule to socialise with friends and go to ice cream parlours to enjoy this delicious summer treat. So, he prefers to buy litre packs of vanilla on his way home after work and share it with his family.

Ammar a student of class III, uses his pocket money to buy his favourite tutti-frutti from the school canteen. He waits from morning till lunch break to eat the chilled ice cream whose single scoop removes all his worries of school assignments.

Home-made ice cream has its own charm and the fun one has by preparing ice cream at home can’t be compared with ice cream that is bought from the market.

Sheneela, a college graduate keeps herself busy in different household chores. Her favourite hobby during the warm summer days is to make ice cream for her family and friends. She loves to try all flavours and for this she experiments continuously. The ‘three-in-one’ ice cream, which she prepares with three different flavours (chocolate, vanilla and strawberry), is her favourite. She also makes tempting plain mango ice cream with dry coconut powder sprinkled over it.

Not all ice cream, however, is perfect. Texture matters as much as flavour. Nothing’s worse than an icy scoop, or one that tastes grainy, syrupy, or artificial.

So, what’s the secret to decadent ice cream that tastes like a dream and feels like a silky cloud melting in your mouth? High-quality ingredients, for one, are essential, plus fine-tuned techniques that combine ingredients in just the right proportions with a perfect amount of air whipped in. There’s a lot of science behind it.

For ice-cream manufacturers, the science of ice cream matters a lot. To satisfy the inceasing demand for the sweet stuff, companies are constantly on the lookout for ways to make better-tasting ice cream that lasts longer, costs less, and is more nutritious than current varieties. As far as home-made ice cream is concerned, it consists of 100 per cent natural and pure ingredients and is more hygienic as compared to branded ice cream. But due to artificial flavours and latest the scientific techniques, the ice cream manufacturing companies have made their ice cream tastier and more delectable than home-made ice cream.

The views of different people described above, for their favourite ice cream, clearly show that the choice of flavour varies from people to people depending on their taste and lifestyle but everyone is of the opinion that nobody dislikes ice cream. People’s preference may differ due to brand name, flavour or form but everybody just loves to have lots of ice cream. So guys, what are you waiting for? Enjoy the bright sunny days of summer with your favourite ice cream.
