Only one thing in nature has never changes; and that is change. Change is always there. Nothing remains the same forever, particularly fashion. Fashions come and go; they change rapidly with the spirit of times. With the change in time the styles, manners, conduct and ways of life also change. It adds zest and liveliness to life. Change and variety is the other name of fashion. It is man’s nature to be fashionable.
The means of communication are so fast that the world has turned into a global village and fashion knows no boundaries of time and space. People all over the world are becoming more fashion conscious.
The young people both boys and girls want to dress according to the latest fashion. These fashions are introduced by fashion designers to boost the sales of their dresses and to make people aware of the latest trends, by which they will gain more fashion sense. Fashion has the tendency to spread like wild fire and very soon it is adopted by all the people. The word fashion can be used for anything — for dress, hairstyle, shoes, manners or etiquettes in all spheres of life.
Some people may be crazy about wearing fashionable clothes, or maintaining a unique hairstyle, while others may adopt fashion in their speech and manner. Again, in fashion nothing is stable and eternal. Here everything changes fast. There was a time when it was thought that females have a monopoly over fashion. But nowadays it is not so because both the boys and girls are crazy after the latest fashions.
Big dress making firms employ fashion designers and beautiful models to popularise their dresses. Fashion parades and shows are held at five star hotels to exhibit the latest dresses. Media also plays a very important role in this respect, in the age of cable and internet; it has become very easy to keep up with fashion trends around the world. Newspapers and fashion magazines are affordable and within the reach of every person. Even in Pakistan fashion magazines come out regularly.
In Pakistan Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad, etc. are big fashion centres. In Pakistan young people copy fashions from magazines and films.
Short sleeves are preferred; loose dresses are no longer worn. Girls wear Patyala Shalwars with short rounded shirts. Some people also have the wrong idea that fashion only means wearing expensive clothes and other costly things. Very expensive clothes do not make a person fashionable. A person may appear fashionable in simple clothes also. In fact, simplicity is the best fashion.
If someone wants to choose their career related to fashion like fashion designing, they can get information from magazines, internet and the most important media. But they should not forget their studies while doing this because if they want to reach the top, first they must give time to their studies to reach their destination. I think if we are passionate about our aim only then can we succeed as the famous proverb goes, “Where there is a will, there is a way!”
Nowadays the in’s and out’s of fashion are very important. There are a few things which spoil your personality; you should not adopt them. Mentioned below are some pointers:
• In hot weather, you should not wear colours like bright red, orange, dark yellow, black, dark brown, navy blue and fire red, etc. because bright and dark colours absorb heat.
• During the day time, don’t apply dark make-up, because it looks horrible, apply a light make-up that gives a glow to your skin.
• Wear clothes according to your personality, complexion, taste and age, otherwise it won’t suit you!
• Shoes must be comfortable first then trendy… if a shoe looks delicate and trendy but it hurts you then it is useless. Nowadays pointed shoes with heels are in, flats are always evergreen, I mean always in.
• Well, today’s fashion includes hair dyeing. While dyeing your hair always remember that the colour you want to apply on your hair should suit you, otherwise it wouldn’t look nice or appealing. In summer protect your hair by covering your head with a hat, cap, scarf or duppatta. Apply oil once a week and use a shampoo that suits your hair type.
• Nowadays two types of jewellery are in fashion: big chunky jewellery at parties and other occasions and light and delicate jewellery as a normal wear.
• In the market big funky coloured purses are in, and look smart; but purses which hold all your accessories are practical.
• Coloured contact lenses are also in, but wait a minute, have you seen a person with dark complexion wearing blue or green lenses? You should wear contact lenses but if they should suit your complexion and face cut, otherwise they are not considered “cool.”
• To save yourself from the bright sunlight, you must wear sunglasses, but again they should be according to your face cut.
Freedom is man’s right and the freedom to choose one’s lifestyle is of fundamental importance. Therefore there is nothing to be ashamed of being a highly fashionable man or woman. However, an excess of anything is bad and should be avoided. Moderation should be the law of fashion as fashion is the reflecting mirror of society.
