I was walking along the street the other day when suddenly a mobile phone went off. Several people jumped up and down and patted their thighs. Excuse me! It’s just a mobile phone that has gone off and not a 10-kilogram bomb. Plus, it was the most popular melody of modern times.
Suddenly a question struck my mind. Are these guys really worried about not missing their phone calls or is it something else? Well, I never had to wait for long to receive my answer. All of them had their cellphones (as we stylishly call the little devils) out and let’s not talk much about the guy whose cellphone actually rang, but the rest of the gang was then busy playing with their respective cellphones. All they wanted was to show off the greatest things, with respect to their own perception, that they were carrying in their pockets.
There was once a time when catching sight of someone talking on a portable phone was something out of the blue, but nowadays everyone from businessman to a butcher has a cellphone. In fact, children as young as seven-years-old also feel the need to call up their friends on a cellphone that has lovingly been given to them by their materialistic and egotistical parents with morals and beliefs that need to be subjected to a serious reality check. I admit that I am an avid user of my cellphone myself. I simply cannot help using it with the great packages that my service provider offers. But I also admit that it is a nuisance as it might ring at a time when I’ve got my hands full.
Cellphones have created a lot of fuss even between the best of friends. One thinks he has the best in the market, but as soon as he catches sight of the cellphone that his best mate is carrying a volcano of jealousy erupts within him.
Cellphones have taken many lives time and again but it doesn’t affect the usage and popularity of these stylish palm-fitters. Many diseases take effect due to the microwaves that a cellphone emits. It is said that a cellphone shouldn’t be kept in the pocket of your shirt because the microwaves it emits when someone calls affects the heart. Apart from that, cellphones have been the culprits behind numerous road accidents. ‘Driving while talking’ has been banned by the government for the same reason, but people have found solutions to that as well; commonly known as hands-free sets. Now with these hands-free ear-phone kind of things in use, people think that they are countering the problem with a lot of effect and responsibility but they do not pay attention to the fact that when they are talking on their cellphones with the aid of these head-sets their attention is towards what they have to say or what is being said to them rather than where exactly they are going or driving towards.
The use of cellphone can sometimes land a person in very difficult situation. For example you are dealing with a customer and your cellphone rings; you check the number and it is your boss who is calling. Now what you do? You can’t ignore the call as it’s your boss and he can even fire you for ignoring him and on the other hand if you take the call the customer can feel irritated because your attention from him is diverted and he is not satisfied. You will have to be very careful in such a situation and tackle it carefully.
There is a personal experience that I would like to share with you guys. I was sitting at the barber’s shop the other day, getting my shave done, when suddenly his cellphone rang and he cut me right under my chin. Not only that but he never knew who gave him a missed-call and he wasted ten minutes of mine with blood pouring from the cut on my chin like hell. I am his customer and he should pay attention to me rather than his cellphone. Definitely, he is going to lose me as the customer which isn’t good for his shop.
Cellphones, nowadays, come with a lot of options and characteristics that makes it possible to do nearly everything – and it’s just a little thing that weighs around half a kilo and is just six centimetres long. People even feel the need of carrying a couple of cellphones rather than just one.
Conclusively, no matter whoever you are or how many cellphones you carry, precautions and safety measures play a very important role. Please be careful.
