The day seemed to stretch for hours and hours when almost unexpectedly a message was sent to the school secretary. Not a message but a proper, yet anonymous letter. It was marked ‘Mysterious message from nowhere’.
She, of course, was very puzzled. It was a threatening letter stating that at some time during the same day, a bomb would explode on the campus. All the senior faculty members were called in for an urgent meeting.
Other teachers were also informed about the letter and its dangers. Everyone was surely perplexed. The principal was panic-stricken. We, the students, were called in for an urgent meeting. Everybody was in a hurry; some terrified students nearly collapsed when hurrying down the stairs.
Meanwhile, the principal called the professionals of the bomb disposal department to come and rescue some thousand innocent souls. Thankfully, they came in no time.
We were told to disperse; some were kept in the school playground. Some, who lived in the neighbourhood, went home, how lucky! Fortunately, a shopping centre was nearby. Some were sent there too, for window-shopping probably!
The younger ones weren’t told, as it wasn’t sensible enough. They could’ve started crying out like anything. Who would stop them then in that total confusion?
The professional squad checked out every thing, everywhere, with extreme care but to no avail. Nothing could be found. They left with grave disappointment and advised the heads to send the pupils home. Maybe the bomb was still hidden somewhere, nobody knew.
It wasn’t long before the truth about the mysterious bomb dawned upon us — the horrified secretary received another letter stating “APRIL FOOL!” Nobody had realised in panic that it was the first of blessed month of April. We all burst into roars of uncontrollable laughter, though we were somewhat angry and confused.
We called the bomb disposal department to inform them about the mischievous trick played on our poor souls. They, too, were relieved that it was only a bomb hoax. Everybody was relieved — too much for mere words!
