The movie is based on World War II where England communicated with the French Resistance and Allied troops in Europe using the Royal Pigeon Service, carrier pigeons that went through a rigorous training regimen. This is the story of Valiant (voice of McGregor), a comically clumsy misfit of a (wood) pigeon who sneaks his way into the Royal Pigeon Service, eager to contribute his efforts to the needs of his country, even though he is immensely unqualified to do so. There he falls in love with a nursing dove and finds some good friends. He is immediately given an assignment that turns out to be one of the most important of the war, carrying essential message from the French to the Allied forces who are about to storm the beaches of Normandy. Valiant, along with his friends, tries to carry the message over enemy bunkers, guarded by German Falcons. To find out whether he succeeds or not and what he endures on his mission watch the movie — I won’t spoil the fun.
Starring Ewan McGregor, Jim Broadbent, John Cleese, Tim Curry and Rupert Rverett, directed by Gary Chapman and produced by John H Williams, Valiant is a wonderful movie with great graphics and some wonderful lines. I’ll say, a must see.
