Since his passing Notorious B.I.G. has lived on through his posthumous releases, “Born Again” and the highly anticipated album, The Notorious B.I.G., “Duets: The Final Chapter.” The album has duets with Biggie and some of today’s greatest mc’s and vocalists. In addition, the tracks are all brand new, from the best producers in the music industry.
The production is pretty decent on the majority of the album, something that was surely lacking in “Born Again”. The opening track is Roll Call with Faith Evans and The Game who showcase with Biggie on the divine 1970 Something. Bone Thugs partner with Twista to bring fire to Spit Your Game, a song which derives from Biggie’s real collaboration with Bone from Life After Death’s Notorious Thugs. Whatchu Want features a glimpse of what could have been reality had Biggie and Jay-Z actually got to form The Commission. Living in Pain pairs Big with his competition at the time, namely 2pac and Nas.
Other notable tracks include Breakin’ Old Habits with T.I. and Slim Thug, the surprisingly decent Ultimate Rush with Missy, Just A Memory with The Clipse, and the posse cut Get Your Grind On featuring Freeway, Fat Joe, and Big Pun. Some songs are just mediocre, like Living The Life, The Most Shady and Hustler’s Story. But there are a couple of songs such as Nasty Girl, I’m Wit’ Whateva and Beef should have been reworked or never have been created in the first place.
