The scream

By Sidra Mansoor

It was midnight and everyone was sleeping. A loud shrill and scary voice woke me up from a deep sleep. I could not understand what had happened at that moment. Lying on my bed I tried to grab any point or any reason which would have made someone to scream in that manner.

I felt my forehead sweating and my hands trembling slowly. I knew that if I tried to sleep again, I would not be able to do so. So, I started thinking positively that it may be my illusions or I might not have heard any thing. In the meantime I again heard the same deafening sound, seemed that some body is in a great trouble and is really in need of assistance. The voice indicated that the person was a woman. I picked up courage to go and look out the window to see what was happening there. I could hardly stand. I was in great fear that I could only take a few steps further and stopped by the same scream which had been scaring me a lot.

I found my legs motionless when I realized that the sound came from the room next to my room. I could hardly believe my ears. Meanwhile, I thought that I should call someone for help. “You shouldn’t have left your bed,” my heart scolded me and pushed me to go back. However, I was shaking with extreme fear but despite that, curiosity crept over me again. I moved nearer to the next door and opened it slowly. The door opened enough to enable me to look inside.

At my first glance, my fear vanished immediately — a horror movie was being aired and my younger brother was fast asleep on the floor. I thought to myself how silly I was.
