Shadow of the colossus has been dubbed as the best epic-adventure game of all time to hit any console by many different gaming websites and magazines. The graphics are stunning, surprisingly smooth and detailed.
The story is simple. You are an outcast boy with his trusty
horse, equipped with a sword and
a bow and arrow. You’re on a
mission to search for sixteen
different towering mythical colossi and then rid them from the
earth. In return, the Gods restore the
fallen girl’s health, whom you take to
a faraway temple in hopes for her recovery.
Is she your wife? Sister? Well, no one knows, and really doesn’t matter because it’s hardly of any importance. Your only focus is on finding and bringing down each and every one of the sixteen colossi, one by one.
The journey of finding the next colossus is assisted by your sword, which reflects sunlight in the direction of the colossus. You travel on your horse, and riding the horse is a one of a kind experience. If anyone of you has experience of horse-riding, you’ll instantly notice the realistic handling of the horse. It’s thoroughly entertaining.
Once you’ve reached the colossus, you see a cut scene showing the rising of the beast- very nice. Fighting it is not like fighting the “big boss” in many other games. It’s not a rush, but it’s strategic. You climb up the colossus using it’s fur and stab it’s weak-point(s) after finding it.
Once you’ve killed the colossus, it
falls helplessly, in a very dramatic
way. The cut scene shown totally puts you in a phase of deep depression due to guilt.
The release of this game renders your PS2 gaming experience incomplete if you do not play it, making Shadow of the Colossus a must buy.
